ESPN College Basketball Analyst Doug Gottlieb to Visit SMC Campus

Moraga, CA - ESPN college basketball analyst Doug Gottlieb will visit the Saint Mary's campus to address the 35 teams that will be attending the basketball camps at SMC this weekend. On Saturday, July 2, Gottlieb will talk to the high school student athletes about the collegiate recruiting process for men's basketball.
"We're excited to have Doug come to our campus and be involved in our summer team camps," said Saint Mary's head men's basketball coach Randy Bennett. " He is a knowledgeable figure in college basketball, who can educate young people whom are looking to play college basketball in a variety of areas."
When hired by ESPN in 2002, Gottlieb was the youngest network college basketball analyst in the country at age 26 and is currently the youngest nationally syndicated sports radio host. At ESPN, he has his own nightly radio show, "GameNight," writes regularly for ESPN.com, serves as a color commentator for college basketball broadcasts and as an analyst on the new College GameNight, a college basketball highlight and information show.
Gottlieb had praise for the SMC program by saying "I am excited to be speaking in conjunction with a men's basketball program like Saint Mary's. Coach Bennett and his staff have done one of the best jobs nationally in turning around a program from where it was four years ago to the NCAA Tournament team they had this past year. There is no question they now possess one of the best mid-major programs in the nation."
Gottlieb led the NCAA in assists while at Oklahoma State and finished his career ninth all-time. Gottlieb epitomized the true point guard mentality, was a high quality point guard defender, and was an unselfish leader and winner.
Prior to coming to SMC on Saturday, Gottlieb will visit Providence and Minnesota this week. He has already made appearances at Oklahoma, Stanford and UC Santa Barbara.
