Tempe, AZ- Mike McRae finished the NCAA West Regional with a final round score of 4-under 68 Saturday morning at the ASU Karsten Golf Course. McRae wrapped up his regional appearance tied for 23rd with a 9-under 207.
McRae had his best round of the tournament on the final day, posting seven birdies, including five out of the gate on the front nine where he shot a 5-under 30. McRae got into the red immediately on the second hole with a bird on the 323-yard par four. The Salt Lake City, UT native then rallied off two consecutive birdies twice on holes 4-5 and 8-9.
On the back nine, the junior continued the trend with a birdie on the 527-yard par five 14th. But on the 15th McRae ran into trouble with a double bogey on the 427 par four. He then bogeyed the 16th before getting back on track with a birdie on the par five 591-yard 17th.
McRae opened the tournament with a (-2) 70 and followed that with a (-3) 69. In the three rounds, the junior sank 18 birdies to just six bogeys. In the final two rounds, McRae only ran into trouble on three holes.
The 9-under was his second best finish of the season. McRae shot under par three other times with his best finish coming at the Ogio-Pacific Coast Intercollegiate. The junior shot a 10-under 206 where he tied for 7th.
