Moraga, CA- Erik Robert could not have asked for a better time to net his first career goal. The senior broke a 1-1 tie to hand the Gaels a 2-1 victory over the Wright State Raiders on Sunday afternoon from Saint Mary's Stadium. After the day, SMC improves to 2-2 on the season.
In the 64th minute, Robert blasted a majestic left-footed blast far post from about 18 yards out, past the out-stretched 6-7 WSU goalkeeper Tebias Mason. Robert was setup by newcomer Erik Rivas.
The Raiders evened the score at one in the 59th minute when Adam Harp found net on a pair of passes from Braden Fleak and Milovan Milosevic.
The Gaels opened the scoring early in the 11th minute. SMC defender Brian Siu made a nice run and netted his first SMC goal. Siu slipped a shot into the far post from the far right side on a pass setup by fellow transfer Justin Kim.
Saint Mary's out-shot Wright State 23-12 and 13-7 in the second half. The Gaels were led by sophomore Dylan Leslie and his four shots. Three other Gaels tallied three shots apiece.
Brian Mason earned the victory in net for SMC. The senior allowed one goal and made three saves on the afternoon. Mason tallied a game-high nine saves for WSU.
Saint Mary's will return to action next week on the road. The Gaels will face the Sacramento State Hornets on Friday, September 21 at 4 p.m. from Hornet Field.
