Box Score

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Saint Mary's men's soccer team fell to the Portland Pilots Wednesday night to start its two-game Pacific Northwest road trip. The Pilots netted a pair of goals in the final ten minutes to cap off a five-goal night for their second West Coast Conference victory. Sophomore goalkeeper Tommy Davis got his fourth start of the season and came up with a career high five saves on 23 shots faced.

Saint Mary's will make the trip to Seattle in preparation for its second game of the road trip, taking on Seattle U Saturday night at 7 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Gaels saw their five-match unbeaten streak come to an end Wednesday night in a 5-0 defeat to the Portland Pilots. Saint Mary's settled into the game after allowing the opening goal for the Pilots in just the fifth minute of play. The Gaels saw some half chances go by and were able to get into the locker room down just the one goal.

Portland was able to strike quick though with two goals within the first ten minutes of the second half to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Saint Mary's produced some dangerous chances once again off set piece opportunities and transition moments. Rafael Suarez saw a left-footed shot attempt turned away on the near post in the 59th minute. Just six minutes later, the Gaels forced a punched cross from the Pilots keeper off a free kick opportunity which then led to a collected loose ball and a curling shot attempt from Carl Emil Lauridsen that sailed just wide of the post. Portland put the game out of reach though with two more goals in the final ten minutes of regulation to finalize a 5-0 victory at Merlo Field.
