
No. 50 Women's Tennis Drops First Match of Season

Stanford, CA - No. 50 Saint Mary's women's tennis was swept in all three doubles matches and lost five straight-set single matches in a 6-1 loss to No. 3 Stanford on Thursday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
The match marked the Gaels first loss of the 2008 season, dropping to 4-1 while the Cardinal improved to 4-1 on the season. The win also marked Stanford's 97 straight home win.
Stanford used straight-set victories in singles play to defeat the Gaels in the No. 1 through No. 5 positions. Junior Feline Charlot was the only Gael member to record a win on the day, posting a 6-4, 6-1 win over Stanford's Megan Doheny. The match marks Charlot's second win at the No. 6 position, with her last coming against Gonzaga on February 9.
The Gaels opened the match by loosing at all three doubles spots. The Gaels' top team of Jessica Hoath and Nienke Strijbis dropped their match to the pair of Hilary Barte and Lindsay Burdette, 8-2.
Saint Mary's women's tennis returns to action on Sunday, February 17 when they face West Coast Conference opponent Santa Clara. The match is scheduled to begin at 12:00 pm in Santa Clara, CA.
