
No. 37 Women's Tennis Extends Win-Streak

Moraga, CA - The No. 37 Saint Mary's women's tennis team made easy work of No. 65 Cal Poly, defeating the Mustangs 6-1 at the Korth Tennis Complex. With the win the Gaels extend their win-streak to three, including two victories over ranked opponents.
Saint Mary's started off on the right foot, capturing the doubles points with wins at the No. 1 and 3 positions. Jessica Hoath and Nienke Strijbis paired up to clinch the doubles point in a close match, defeating Brittany Blalock and Steffi Wong 9-7. Freshmen Alex Poorta and Claire Soper earned the Gaels' first win, 8-3, topping the Mustangs' Diana Flip and Amy Markoff.
In singles action the Gaels ran through the competition, posting victories at almost every position. Hoath, who has earned a 119 ranking by the ITA, displayed her dominance against Brittany Blalock, winning at the one spot, 6-2, 6-1. Marah Calvo followed Hoath's lead, allowing her opponent only one game, 6-1, 6-0. Alex Poorta, Claire Soper, and Stef Ordoveza each recorded singles win for the Gaels as well.
The Gaels return to action this weekend against UC Santa Barbara, as they host the Guachos at the Korth Tennis Complex at 11:00 AM.
