Fresno, CA. - The No. 43 Saint Mary's women's tennis (14-6) finished the regular season with a 6-1 decision over the University of Hawaii (2-16). The match took place at a neutral site at the Wathen Tennis Complex in Fresno, CA.
Saint Mary's won the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. The Gael duo of Marah Calvo and Stef Ordoveza defeated the Wahine's Sophie Kobuch and Chloe Bihag, 8-2 at the No. 2 position. While at the three slot the freshmen pair of Alex Poorta and Claire Soper topped Jennifer Goldman and Natasha Zorec, 8-3.
In singles action, the Gaels won five of their six matches. Hoath topped Hawaii's No. 82 Kobuch at the No. 1 position, 6-2, 6-4. The Rainbow Wahine's lone victory came at the No. 3 court. Freshman Natasha Zorec outlasted Marah Calvo in the third set super tiebreaker, 5-7, 6-4, 1-0(6).
With the win the Gaels finish the regular season with a 14-6 record, and look to make some noise in the West Coast Conference Championship. The tournament will be held at the Saint Mary's home court, the Korth Tennis Complex in Moraga, CA, on April 18-20.
