
Women's Soccer Earns NSCAA /adidas Team Academic Honors Award

Moraga, CA - Head coach Kai Edwards and the Saint Mary's women's soccer team earned the National Soccer Coaches of America/adidas Team Academic Award after posting a 3.05 grade point average. In his two years at Saint Mary's, the women's soccer team has been honored with the NSCAA award.
Saint Mary's is one of five West Coast Conference teams to be recognized by the NSCAA. Joining the Gaels on the list are Gonzaga (3.49), Loyola Marymount (3.16), Pepperdine (3.13), and Portland (3.37).
A total of 630 soccer teams (194 men, 436 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2009-10 academic year. Over 100 more women's soccer teams were honored this season. There were 125 schools that had both their men's and women's teams honored which was up from 97 last season.
The Gaels finished the 2010 season with an 8-7-4 overall record, and after finishing the year with a 1-1 tie against No. 2 Portland, the Gaels were 2-4-1 in WCC play. The winning year was the first Saint Mary's since 2001, when the Gaels were 15-3-2.
