
Golf Posts 10th Place Finish To Open 2010-11 Season

Kiawah Island, SC - The Saint Mary's men's golf team posted a final round score of 304 (+16) at The Invitational at The Ocean Course on Tuesday, and finished 10th out of 12 teams with a 54-hole score of 302-307-304-913.
In the first tournament of the 2010-11 season, Saint Mary's made the trip to the East Coast with six players, including one senior (Henrik Holm), a first-year junior (Anders Engell), two sophomores (Ben Geyer and Mac McClung) and two freshmen (Alex Bungert and Dalan Refioglu).
During the first 54 holes of the season, SMC got some good play from Henrik Holm, who posted a 12th place finish in his first tournament of his senior season. Holm posted a final round 75 (+3) for a 54-hole total of 223 (+7). Holm finished nine shots off the pace of tournament winner John Duke Hudson of the College of Charleston.
Hudson was three shots better than Niall Platt of Notre Dame, Jason Shufflebottam of UAB, and Sebastian Soderberg of Coastal Carolina.
North Carolina State took home the team title by six shots over Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish entered the final round with a one shot lead over the Wolf Pack, but NC State's final round of even par 288 bested Notre Dame by seven shots. Tournament host, the College of Charleston finished third at 880 (+16), one shot behind second place Notre Dame.
For the Gaels, sophomores Ben Geyer tied for 38th (230/+14) and Mac McClung tied for 42nd (232/+16), in the 72-player field from the par 72, 7,504-yard Ocean Course. McClung posted the best round of the day for SMC, carding a 1-over par 73.
Freshmen Alex Bunger and Dalan Regioglu posted rounds of 79 on Tuesday, and finished tied for 63rd and 65th with scores of 240 (+24) and 241 (+25), respectively. Rounding out the Gaels' play on Tuesday was Wichita State transfer Anders Engell, whose final round score of 82 dropped him to a tie for 48th overall. Engell carded rounds of 74 and 77 on Monday.
Saint Mary's returns to the links Saturday, October 2 with the opening round of the Cabo Intercollegiate, which will be hosted by Santa Clara at the Querencia Golf Club in Los Cabos, Mexico. The tournament is a three-day event, with 18 holes on Oct. 2-4.
