MORAGA, Calif.- Saint Mary's baseball player Patrick Wisdom had a breakout freshman season last year and was rewarded with All-West Coast Conference Freshman Team honors. The third baseman appeared in 51 of 52 games, posted a .290 batting average, and was second on the team with 12 home runs and 39 RBI. This season, the sophomore from Murrieta, Calif. has started all six games and looks to build on his solid first season in a Gael uniform. Recently, Wisdom took the time to talk about this season, his SMC experience, and a little more about himself.
What are your goals this season, both as a team and individually?
Our team goals are to win the WCC, get nationally ranked, and get a ring. Individually, I would like to do better than last year, help my team reach their goals, and be the best I can be.
Why did you choose SMC?
I chose SMC because of the baseball program and the fact that I would be playing baseball at this beautiful campus.
What is the best part of your game?
My competiveness which leads to an overall balance in all of my game. I'm very confident in my defensive abilities and confident in my hitting.
What is your best memory so far as a SMC student-athlete?
Being able to have a brotherhood with the other athletes on campus. The best memory is everyday going out with my team and getting the job done.
What do you most enjoy about your sport?
I enjoy the whole game. It's the only sport where the defense is in control of the ball. I like the uniqueness of baseball. At any moment the game can change.
What do you see yourself doing in 10 years?
I see myself playing Major League Baseball with a degree from SMC.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
I would have the superpower to obtain any power that came to mind.
Who has been the most influential person in your life?
The most influential person in my life is the Lord. My family is also very influential to me.
Do you have any game-day rituals or superstitions?
I always put my left sock and cleat on first.
If you couldn't play baseball, what sport would you most like to play? Why?
I would most like to play Rugby because I love playing football and that sport is new to me and seems fun to play.
What is your favorite place that you have visited?
Cooperstown, New York and the Baseball Hall of Fame
What kind of music is on your pregame playlist?
Every kind of music. I listen and get pumped to all kinds of music.
What is something most people don't know about you?
I'm in the Youth Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?
A man has found his true self when he stops thinking of how to live and begins to live.
