MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's women's soccer team (5-3-1) hosts two matches this week. On Thursday, the Gaels host Pacific (1-6) at 4:00 p.m. On Sunday, Saint Mary's hosts Valparaiso (5-2-1) at 12:00 p.m. Both matches will be played in Saint Mary's Stadium.
Saint Mary's is 4-1-1 over its last six matches, allowing only two scores during that stretch. Last week the Gaels won the Saint Mary's Tournament, defeating UC Davis 1-0 and Bucknell 2-0.
Caroline Beaulne was the SMC Tournament MVP after scoring game-winning goals in both matches for the Gaels. Vicki Shimkus, Khayla Jones, Caroline Kreuz and Casidee Lynch joined Beaulne on the all-tournament squad. Jones was also named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week and College Sports Madness West Coast Player of the Week.
In addition to the Gaels strong defense, SMC features a balanced attack on offense. Beaulne missed the first part of the season with the Gaels, playing for Canada's World Cup U-19 squad. The freshman has quickly adjusted to the Collegiate game, being tied for the team lead in goals.
Katy Roby leads SMC in points with two goals and three assists. Christina Tognetti has scored twice with one assist. Celina Minissian is the team leader with 19 shots, while four other Gaels have attempted at least 10 shots.
The Tigers lone win this season came against Oregon in a 1-0 victory in Stockton. Pacific has been shutout five times this season. Pacific nearly knocked off Pepperdine, losing to the Waves 3-2 in Malibu.
Maricela Padilla leads the Tigers with two goals while Haylee Bettencourt has scored Pacific's other goal this year. Tashia Long has logged 450 minutes in goal with 28 saves and a 2.00 goals against average.
Valparaiso enters the week having won three straight matches against Western Michigan, Bowling Green and IPFW. The Crusaders take on USF in San Francisco on Friday, before making the trip to Moraga.
Valparaiso is led by Luisa Desario with three goals while Sarrah Ludwig has scored twice. Five other Crusaders have also scored this season. Kristen Manski is the goalkeeper playing all 741 minutes with a 0.61 goals against average and 27 saves.
