STANFORD, Calif. -- Sophomore Jonathan De Los Reyes is tied for 11th place and leads the Saint Mary's golf team after two rounds at the 45th annual U.S. Intercollegiate at Stanford Golf Course.
As a team, the Gaels posted a 6-over par 286 and are in second place among the 18-team field that includes three teams ranked among the top-10 in the country. The Gaels shot a 7-under par 273 in yesterday's first round and is currently tied with West Coast Conference rival San Francisco at 1-under 559.
Host Stanford, ranked 10th nationally, leads the team competition after carding a 9-under par 271 today and sits at 17-under for the tournament. The Cardinal were the only team to shoot an under-par team score in today's round. Saint Mary's is just behind team runner-up TCU, which shot even-par 280 today and, after 36 holes, is at minus-6.
"The course setup was tougher today and we didn't adjust well," said SMC head coach Scott Hardy. "We made a few mental mistakes and weren't able to save strokes with good putting. We need to come out tomorrow and battle. It is going to be a tough day and we need to be prepared to score well regardless of the conditions."
The field will return to Stanford Golf Course tomorrow morning for the tournament's final round with tee times beginning at 8 a.m.
A native of Antioch, Calif., De Los Reyes shot an even par 70 in today's second round and is 1-under for the tournament. He carded six birdies on the day, but a triple bogey on the par 4 13th hole prevented him from posting his second-straight under-par round.
De Los Reyes is seven strokes behind co-leaders Patrick Rodgers of Stanford and Paul Barjon of TCU.
Junior Alex Bungert is tied with teammate Mac McClung for 16th with an even par 140. Bungert fired a pair of consistent rounds, 69-71, and joins a total of six golfers at even par. McClung, after shooting 66 in yesterday's first round, carded a 74 today.
Senior Ben Geyer and junior Dalan Refioglu are tied for 33rd at 3-over par 143. Geyer shot 72-71 in his two rounds of the tournament, while Refioglu went 69-74.
