WSOC | Shimkus Sets SMC Matches Played Mark In Finale

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Vicki Shimkus of the Saint Mary's women's soccer team played in career match No. 80, tying an SMC record. The Gaels would drop their final match of the year at Santa Clara.
Saint Mary's was outshot 12-9 and the shots on goal total was 6-3 in favor of the Broncos.
Santa Clara got on the board early as Ashley Doyle scored off a corner kick from Brittany Ambrose in the fifth minute. Saint Mary's would play even with the Broncos for the rest of the half as the score remained 1-0 SCU at the break.
SMC trailed by a 7-4 margin in shots at halftime.
In the second half, Sofia Huerta scored in the 51st minute, scoring off a break. The West Coast Conference Player of the Year candidate would add another score in the 71st minute as the Broncos won 3-0.
Shimkus, Caroline Beaulne and Flannery Davis took two shots apiece for the Gaels. Davis, Samantha Dion and Casidee Lynch had shots on goal for SMC.
Stephanie Busch played the entire 90 minutes with three saves.
SMC finishes the year with a 7-10-3 mark and a 3-3-3 record at home. SMC was also 6-5 in non-conference matches in 2014.
