No. 6 Saint Mary's Jake Rudel has received back-to-back WCC POTW awards with another recognition by the conference this week.
SAN BRUNO, Calif. — For the second straight week and third time overall this season, Saint Mary's forward Jake Rudel has been named West Coast Conference Player of the Week following his impressive five-point performance in the No. 6 Gaels 8-0 thumping over San Francisco on Saturday.
Rudel tallied the first goal of the match and his fifth game-winning goal of the season off a pretty pass from Stephen Dougherty for an easy tap-in goal in the 29th minute. Later in the match, the junior set up Joseph Restani's 55th minute score for his third point of the afternoon.
Under a minute later, Rudel collected a pass down the right sideline and raced towards the Dons' net, eventually popping the ball over the keeper while tumbling forward for his second goal of the match. Rudel finished the contest with four shots and five points in only 48 minutes of play.
The Gaels' forward now has five goals in his past three contests, including a two-goal performance last weekend at Pacific which earned him his second WCC POTW honor of the season. His first POTW award came after a four-goal weekend against San Jose State and Cal Poly in the third week of the season.
Saint Mary's returns to the pitch this weekend against Santa Clara. The home contest kicks off at 1 p.m. Tickets for the match can be purchased by clicking HERE, calling (925) 631-GoTx, or at the stadium entrance.
