MBB | Gaels Host Special Clinic For Over 60 Athletes

MORAGA, Calif. — Last Sunday, the Saint Mary's men's basketball team hosted the Common Interest Management Services Special Olympics Northern California Clinic in McKeon Pavilion. The one-hour clinic was led by the coaches and players and over 60 athletes from Special Olympics attended the event.

Head Coach Randy Bennett addressed the group at the beginning of the clinic and then the athletes rotated through various stations teaching the fundamentals of basketball.  Afterwards, each athlete received a 2018-19 schedule poster and autographs from the Saint Mary's players and coaches.

"We really enjoy getting the opportunity to coach and work with the athletes from the Special Olympics," said Bennett after the clinic. "Their positive attitudes and energies are a joy to be around."

This is the fifth year in a row Saint Mary's has hosted the event. During halftime of the Gaels versus Bucknell game on December 19th, two Special Olympic teams will play on the court at McKeon Pavilion.

The Special Olympics Northern California provides sports training opportunities to children and adults with intellectual disabilities. More information about the organization can be found by clicking here.

The Gaels officially tip-off their season on Nov. 7 at home against McNeese State at 7 p.m.
