Box Score MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's had a stellar night of soccer on Sunday as they took on the Pacific Tigers. After a strong start with three goals in the first half, the Gaels carried the momentum through the duration of the match and eventually won 4-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
No. 9 Saint Mary's had a busy night on Sunday against Pacific, scoring three goals in the first half and another one in the second half. Gaels Jake Rudel, Lucas Andrews and Joseph Restani all collected goals in exciting fashion, increasing their already impressive goal total to 33.
Rudel scored two of the four goals on Sunday, the first coming in the 13th minute of the match on a direct shot to the back left corner of the net. Rudel's next goal came only four seconds into the second half after an assist from Anders Engebretsen which Rudel headed into the net. Andrews scored the second goal and first header of the match in the 25th minute after a corner kick set up. Restani's goal in the 43rd minute was almost saved by a Tiger defender before it crossed the goal line, however it rolled in just in time to count as the third goal of the match.
Remi Prieur completed his ninth shutout of the season without making a single save, as Pacific took three shots during the entire match. The Gaels kept the Tiger's offense stale through a majority of the match and made it an easy match for Prieur to defend.
Saint Mary's turned on the defense following Rudel's header just after the start of the second half; the Tigers took no shots in the second half and the Gaels managed to control the ball through the remainder of the match. Saint Mary's went on to win the match 4-0, continuing their undefeated season and completing their first conference win of the year.
Saint Mary's has won five of the last six matches against Pacific and improve their all-time record to 6-4-3.
