

MTEN | Gaels Begin WCC Play at USF, Santa Clara

SAN FRANCISCO - Returning from the Golden State Invitational in Sacramento, the Gaels (3-9) will open West Coast Conference play this weekend beginning with San Francisco on Saturday and Santa Clara on Sunday.
Saturday's contest against the Dons kicks off at 1 p.m. while Sunday's matchup with the Broncos will begin at noon. Both matches will be played on the road.
Saint Mary's is coming off a 4-3 victory over Seattle from nearly two weeks ago that saw Damon Kesaris, Nash Vollenweider, Matthew Campana and Jacob Lagman pick up points for the Gaels. Kesaris is 8-3 from the top singles spot this season and cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory while Campana and Lagman each earned their first singles win of the year.
Kesaris and Vollenweider also make up the team's top doubles tandem and are 5-5 this season from the No. 1 spot. The international duo breezed to a 6-1 decision against Seattle their last time on the court.
The Dons (3-9) will host Saint Mary's following their Friday match against Pacific. USF has fallen on hard times of late, going 1-8 in their last nine contests. In last year's matchup between the two teams, USF came out on top with 4-2 win.
Santa Clara is 8-5 this season but have dropped its last three matches. Prior to, the Broncos had won eight straight including wins over UC Davis and New Mexico. Andrew Gu is the team's top singles player and is 8-3 from the No.1 singles position this year.
