MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's men's tennis team opened up West Coast Conference play this weekend at Timothy Korth Tennis Complex with matches against No. 25 Pepperdine and No. 58 LMU. The Gaels took a point against the 25th ranked Waves but fell 4-1 and then dropped the second match of the weekend 4-1 to the Lions to start conference play 0-2.

Saint Mary's got off to a good start on Saturday, taking the doubles point with wins from Thibaud Maxant/Finn Dyer and the Etchecoin brothers against the 25th ranked Waves. Pepperdine showed its dominance though, securing all four points in singles play to win its 11th match of the season. Maxant and Dyer won their team leading seventh doubles win of the season while Juan Pedro Etchecoin and Paulo Hugo Etchecoin improved to 5-4 this season with their win as a duo.

On Sunday, the Gaels took the doubles point again with a pair of 6-4 wins from Thibaud Maxant/Finn Dyer and Francisco Duran/Bastien Maxant. Maxant and Dyer now lead the team with a 8-6 doubles record this season. Despite the doubles success on the weekend, the Gaels would fail to win a singles match as LMU stormed back to take four of the six matches. Maxant and Duran would stay alive to go unfinished in their duals.
