FRESNO, Calif. – The Saint Mary's volleyball team beat host Fresno State 3-1 on the first night of the Fresno State Invitational Thursday at the Save Mart Center in Fresno.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gaels took the first set in convincing fashion, 25-11, before giving one back in the second set 20-25. Saint Mary's came out strong to win the next two, 25-21 and 26-24. With the win, the Gaels improved to 2-2 on the season and gave Fresno State its first loss, dropping to 4-1.
 
Overall, senior Lindsey Calvin led the Gaels with 13 kills, hitting .500 on the night and recording four blocks. Senior Lindsey Knudsen had a team-high 15 kills and 17 digs to lead the all-around effort.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
2 – The Gaels had two players with a double-double, Knudsen and Sienna Young, who had 10 kills and 12 digs.
 
12 – A total of 12 blocks were recorded by the Gaels. Alex O'Sullivan led the way with nine blocks up front.
 
500 – Saint Mary's hit .500 exactly in two sets Thursday night, in the first set and to close the match in the fourth set.
 
UP NEXT
Saint Mary's will face Cal Baptist on Friday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. and wrap up the invitational on Saturday morning against American at 10 a.m.
