MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's hits the road this week against Sacramento State and UC Riverside as they look to remain undefeated. Friday's match against the Hornets will begin at 4 p.m. while Sunday's match will begin at 1 p.m. against the Highlanders.

The Gaels look to continue their dominant performance so far this season, as they now sit atop the NCAA ranks at first place in scoring offense with 19 goals and an average of 3.8 goals per game. Juniors Anders Engebretsen and Jake Rudel lead the offense with five goals a piece through five games and are currently tied for sixth place in the NCAA for total goals.
Saint Mary's is also having a stellar performance defensively as Remi Prieur is fourth in the NCAA rankings with his save percentage of 0.957 and 22 saves through five games this year. Of the top ten NCAA goalies in terms of save percentages, Prieur is second in minutes played at 446.
With a combination of the offensive and defensive power that the Gaels have been displaying, they also have managed to complete four shutouts out of their five games.
ABOUT SACRAMENTO STATE
Sacramento State has posted a 1-3-2 record this season and are coming off a 6-2 loss versus Cal as well as a 0-0 tie versus Pacific. The Hornets have achieved an average of 1.67 goals per game this year while averaging under 10 shots per contest.Â
Senior Dominic Scotti is leading the Hornets' offense with four goals while freshman Benji Kikanovic is second with three goals.
Sacramento State and Saint Mary's have met many times over years and SMC holds the all-time advantage at 14-11-9. However, the teams have been evenly matched in recent years as six of the nine ties have been recorded in the last ten matches.
ABOUT UC RIVERSIDE
The Highlanders have had a tough start this season with a record of 0-5-1. The team started their 2018 season with five losses before most recently coming off a 0-0 tie to Cal. UCR will play against UNLV on Friday before hosting Saint Mary's.
The Highlanders have struggled offensively this season, as they have posted an average of 0.83 goals per game with an average of 8.3 shots taken per match. Daniel Aguirre has scored two of the team's three goals in 2018 while Edywn Gutierrez has played in all six matches and has one clean sheet to his credit.
UC Riverside is currently 2-3-1 all-time against the Gaels. The two teams have not played since 2015, which ended as a 1-1 tied in double overtime in Moraga.Â
