

GOLF | Gaels Open Season at Huntsman Springs

Saint Mary's will begin their 2018-19 campaign this Monday at the Showdown in the Rockies.
DRIGGS, Idaho — The Gaels will tee off their fall schedule this week as they travel to Idaho for the Showdown in the Rockies which will be played at Huntsman Springs Golf Course. The two-day tournament will begin Monday with two rounds and conclude on Tuesday with a final round.
THE FIELD
Saint Mary's will square off with nine other schools during the tournament including: Arizona, Boise State, Colorado, Oregon State, Santa Clara, Texas Tech, Utah State, Utah Valley, and the host, Utah.
Texas Tech (No. 12) currently rests as the highest ranked team in the tournament according to last season's Golfstat rankings with Arizona (No. 33), Colorado (No. 46) and Santa Clara (No. 52) also providing stiff competition. The Gaels presently sit at No. 50 in the national rankings.
THE LINEUP
After losing three regular starters in this past spring to graduation, Saint Mary's will roll out a new-look lineup at Huntsman Springs. The Gaels will utilize Ryan Grauman, Blake Hathcoat, Michael Slesinski, Ethan Ashbrook, and Ethan Farnam with Jeffrey Inouye-Wong competing as an individual. Grauman, Ashbrook, and Farnam are all new to Scott Hardy's team this season while Slesinski and Inouye-Wong saw limited playing time last year.
THE COURSE
Huntsman Springs is located at the base of the spectacular Teton Mountains. The golf course opened its doors for play in 2010 and has received numerous accolades from Golfweek; ranking it among the top New Private Courses, Best Modern Courses, and Best Residential Courses in the country. The golf course is a 7,613-yard par 72 links design with Irish Fescue rough surrounding the bluegrass fairways and greens.
The first two rounds of the event will be played on Monday, with the first 18 holes beginning at 7:30 a.m. and the second-round beginning at approximately 12:30 p.m. MT. The final round will start Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. MT.
