PROVO, Utah – Riding an eight-game winning streak into Utah, Saint Mary's could not break the No. 1 Cougars, falling to BYU 3-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
 • SET ONE | BYU took control early in the first set, quickly building a 15-5 lead. SMC and the Cougars traded the next pair of points, but Brigham Young ultimately took the opening frame 25-10.

• SET TWO | The Gaels battled back-and-forth with the Cougars in the second, but BYU preserved their early lead to take a 2-0 advantage. SMC fought off multiple set points at the end of the set, but BYU prevailed 25-14.

• SET THREE | Saint Mary's kept within two points early on, trailing 6-4 after 10 points had been played. The Cougars then went on a 4-point run, but SMC responded with two points of their own. BYU gained some separation, but the Gaels kept within striking distance. Ultimately, the Cougars pulled ahead, taking the final set by the score of 25-12.

The Gaels' two offensive leaders were
Lindsey Calvin and
Lindsey Knudsen who recorded seven and five kills respectively.Â
Alexsa "Crash" Parker was also in on most of the action, collecting 15 of SMC's 23 assists.

Now 9-3 overall and 1-1 in conference-play, Saint Mary's will return home for a contest against San Francisco before hitting the road once again to face Pacific on September 28.
