MORAGA, Calif. – The Saint Mary's volleyball team will play the first official match in the newly renovated McKeon Pavilion this Friday and Saturday, as they host the SMC-USF Invitational.
The Gaels, in conjunction with San Francisco, will host Southern Utah on Friday night at 6 p.m. and Hofstra on Saturday night at 7 p.m. The two teams will also play USF and each other in a neutral site game in San Francisco.
The two home matches will be the opening of McKeon Pavilion, which was renovated over the summer to include a new 48-foot wide Daktronics video board, new sound system, new flooring and new lights, among other updates.
SCOUTING REPORT: Saint Mary's enters the week with a 4-2 overall record, having won three straight matches. Southern Utah, out of the Big Sky, comes into the invitational with a 1-5 record. Hofstra enters the with a 6-1 record, including six straight wins and won the Black Knights Invitational at Army last weekend.
LAST WEEKEND: The Gaels went 3-0 at the Fresno State Invitational and took home the invite title. Saint Mary's beat Fresno State, Cal Baptist and American University, all by scores of 3-1.
ALL-TOURNAMENT
Saint Mary's was led on the All-Tournament team at the Fresno State Invitational by the Most Valuable Player
Lindsey Calvin. Joining Calvin on the team was senior
Lindsey Knudsen. Calvin averaged 3.6 kills per set over the tournament and hit an impressive .511 over the three matches with only one hitting error on 84 attempts. Knudsen averaged 3.1 kills per set and 2.9 digs per set over the three matches.
UP NEXT: Saint Mary's continues its four-match homestand with Nevada coming to McKeon Pavilion on Thursday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m., followed by local rival Cal on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 3 p.m.
