MORAGA, Calif. — The newly-crowned 2019 West Coast Conference Champion Gaels will look to wrap up their regular season this week as they will host Portland on Saturday before heading into the NCAA Tournament with an automatic bid after winning the conference. The No. 11 Gaels will honor their seniors prior to the match.Â

Saint Mary's earned their second straight WCC Championship title on Saturday after defeating Loyola Marymount 2-0. The Gaels moved to 15-1 and 6-0 in conference play with the victory and handed the Lions their first WCC loss of the year. Following the victory, SMC moved up a spot in the rankings and are now No. 11 as voted by the United Soccer Coaches' poll.
The Gaels were ranked No. 6 by College Soccer News and No. 7 by Top Drawer Soccer heading into the final week of regular season play.
After scoring one of the two goals on Saturday, Anders Engebretsen ranks tied for 10th in the nation with 13 tallies this season. The senior has recorded 34 points this season, which is good for ninth in the country and second all-time in a single year. In net, Remi Prieur is second in the nation in shutouts this season with 11 and has 15 wins under his belt, which is the second most in program history.Â
ABOUT PORTLAND
Portland enters Saturday's contest with a 9-6-1 overall record and a 3-3 conference posting. The Pilots are coming off a 4-2 loss to San Diego last week to snap their three-game winning streak. Despite an early 2-0 lead over the Toreros, San Diego's late rally was enough to overcome Portland and take the win.
Luke Hendel has led the Pilots' efforts this season as he has recorded five goals, with three of those being game-winning tallies. Gio Magana-Rivera has collected the most shots on the team (42), which is good for tied for third in the conference alongside SMC's Jake Rudel.Â
Portland holds the all-time record against Saint Mary's at 21-15-4, but most recently, the Gaels defeated the Pilots in a 2-0 win in overtime in 2018.
