GOLF | Peterson Shines at SMC Invitational, Gaels Finish 6th

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Saint Mary's wrapped up the final day of their host tournament with a 285 team score and a sixth place finish out of the 16-team field.
THE LEADERBOARD
Evan Peterson had a terrific performance in his first ever tournament as part of the lineup as he ended tied for sixth in the 100-man field. The redshirt senior posted his best score of the event on Wednesday with a 3-under par 68 and eagled his last hole of the day on ninth.
Blake Hathcoat and Ethan Farnam had respectable finishes as they both placed in the top-20 at t-16th at 2-under. Ash Hakim was middle of the pack at 9-over and Michael Slesinski rounded out the team's scores. The Gaels overall combined score was 1-over.
No. 20 Colorado State took the tournament with a 25-under performance and shot 4-under on the final day. No. 6 BYU and No. 14 Arizona wrapped up the top-3.
For the second straight year, BYU's Peter Kuest took individual honors as he jumped three spots to take sole possession of first at 11-under. Arizona, Oregon State, and two players from Colorado State represented the remainder of the top-5.
The Gaels had five individuals in the tournament and were led by Dylan VanderVeer who finished play 5-over.

- Peterson recovered from a tough opening nine to shoot 3-under on his final nine holes.
- Hathcoat had eight pars and a birdie on the front nine.
- Saint Mary's team score of 25-under on par 5's tied for first in the tournament.
- The Gaels had the most eagles of any team with five.
- Saint Mary's will not play again until the new year. The Gaels first tournament of the spring season is on Jan. 27 at the Arizona Intercollegiate.
