MSOC | No. 12 Gaels to Host Loyola Marymount in Big Matchup This Week

MORAGA, Calif. — No. 12 Saint Mary's (14-1, 5-0 WCC) will look to earn their fifth straight shutout on Saturday as they host Loyola Marymount at 1 p.m. The contest between the two teams will determine who will receive the automatic qualifier into the NCAA Tournament.

The Gaels are coming off a 3-0 victory over Gonzaga on Saturday to finish their road schedule on a high note with a perfect 7-0 record. During the contest, Jake Rudel, Joseph Restani, and Anders Engebretsen each scored a goal for Saint Mary's to easily secure the win over the Bulldogs. The Gaels' had a potent offensive performance as they outshot Gonzaga 15-3 with nine coming on frame.

Engebretsen is atop the WCC leaderboard for total number of assists as he has tallied eight so far this year while averaging 0.53 per game. The Oslo, Norway native ranks as second in the conference in three respective categories: goals (12), shots (52), and points (32). Joseph Restani and Jake Rudel rank third and fourth, respectively, in both goals and points. 

ABOUT LOYOLA MARYMOUNT
Loyola Marymount owns a 10-4-3 overall record and are 5-0 in conference action. Both LMU and SMC are the lone teams in the WCC to have a perfect conference record. The Lions are coming off two straight victories last week as they defeated No. 23 San Diego 3-1 and tallied a 2-0 win over Santa Clara.

Duhaney Williams and CJ Neville both lead the team in goals as they have each recorded four goals a piece this season. Francis Avoce has led the Lions' efforts in total shots as he has collected 43, which is good for third in conference rankings. In net, Jacob Jackson also ranks third in the conference for total number of saves with 45 while averaging 3.46 per game.

Saint Mary's holds the all-time record against Loyola Marymount at 24-16-3 and have defeated LMU in their last four out of five matchups dating back to 2014.
