MORAGA, Calif. — United Soccer Coaches announced their All-Region teams today and five Gaels were named to All-West Region teams, including three to the First Team.
Earning First Team honors were goalkeeper Remi Prieur, forward Anders Engebretsen, and midfielder Jakub Svehlik. Making Second Team was forward Jake Rudel and midfielder Sebastian Schacht.
Prieur grabbed his second straight WCC Goalkeeper of the Year award this year with his 11 shutouts, 0.60 goals-against average, and 81.8 save percentage, all of which led the conference. In addition, Preiur was selected to the conference's First Team and was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List in the preseason.
Engebretsen was named Co-Player of the Year after posting what could be the greatest offensive season in program history. Engebretsen had 40 points on 16 goals and eight assists and was just one point shy of the program record set by Juan Guarda in 1990. He was also placed on the All-WCC First Team and was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List in the preseason.
Svehlik earned All-WCC First Team recognition following the 2019 season after making 14 starts in 15 appearances this season while posting 26 shots one goal. Svehlik was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List in the preseason and also earned a spot on the All-West First Team last year.
Rudel also earned an All-WCC First Team recognition nod as he made 14 starts in 16 appearances while recording the team's third most goals with seven this season. Rudel was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List in the preseason.
Schacht was the sixth Gael to be chosen as an All-WCC First Team recognition followed by a 17-start season while recording three goals and posting four assists. Schacht was a key component in the SMC's backline as he helped lead the Gaels to their second-straight WCC Championship.
Last year, Saint Mary's had five Gaels named to the All-West Region with four named to the First Team. Prieur and Rudel were both selected to the All-American Third Team for the first time in program history for the stellar performances last season.
