SB | Gaels Split First Day of Aggie Invitational

Saint Mary's picked up a 7-3 win in the second game of the doubleheader on Day 1 of the Aggie Invitational on Friday afternoon .
DAVIS, Calif.  — Saint Mary's (2-6) avenged Friday's loss to UTEP with a 7-3 win over Idaho State to end their six game skid.
Game 1
UTEP 7, Saint Mary's 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
Saint Mary's got the game going early after scoring two quick runs in the bottom of the first inning. Hannah Chew hit a single up the middle to advance Abbey Mariani to second and bring Bailey Lotz home. Kalissa Heihn kept the inning alive with her second homer of the season to give the Gaels their second run of the contest. The freshman middle infielder finished the game 3-for-4.
The Gaels managed six hits in the game, three of which came from Heihn, and were able to pick up six free passes from the Miners. Kimiko Zapanta collected one stolen base, which is her second stolen base this season.
UTEP (3-10) collected three runs in the second inning of the game, followed by two in the third and in the fourth. The Miners recorded 12 hits during the contest, including two home runs and one error.
Game 2
Saint Mary's 7, Idaho 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gaels tied their season-high in runs in the second game of the Friday's doubleheader after scoring all of their seven runs in the fourth inning.
Julia McCormack got the scoring started with an RBI double followed by a walk with the bases loaded from Jaymee Campbell to record another run for Saint Mary's. Later in the same inning, Mariani hit an RBI single to bring home Dylan Linton while Jayda Alaan then scored on a fielding error and Halle Sullivan flied out to center to bring home Zapanta for the final run.
Saint Mary's totaled 10 hits during the contest as McCormack led the team with two runs batted in while Mariani and Sullivan each recorded two hits a piece. Six other Gaels also picked up a hit throughout the game.
In the circle, Eryn McCoy pitched in all seven innings while limiting the Bengals to seven hits, two walks, and three runs. The junior also recorded eight strikeouts during the game to help bring the Gaels to victory.
