SB | Gaels Fall on Final Day at Aggie Invitational

Saint Mary's struggled to score on Sunday in their three games.
DAVIS, Calif. — Saint Mary's (2-9) wrapped up the Aggie Invitational hosted by UC Davis with 16 innings of softball spread over three games.
Game 1
Idaho State 6, Saint Mary's 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
Originally scheduled for Saturday, the Gaels' and Bengals' contest was postponed in the fifth inning yesterday at 3-3 and was made to resume this morning.
Idaho State (5-5) would immediately jumped ahead with a three-run homer in the top of sixth and would hold that score for the remainder of the game. Saint Mary's picked up five hits in the game including a double from senior Abbey Mariani.
Game 2
Seattle 7, Saint Mary's 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
Saint Mary's matched Seattle's (9-3) hit total in the game with seven but could only manage to get across one run in the loss.
Nikki Alexander had a sterling day at the plate for the Gaels by going 3-for-3 while also scoring Saint Mary's lone run. After singling through the right side with one out, Alexander made her way around the bases on three wild pitches to put SMC on the board. The junior leads her team in runs scored with seven this season.
Sofia Earle started in the circle and struck out four in 2.1 innings of work. Eryn McCoy also struck out four batters in relief.
Game 3
UC Davis 6, Saint Mary's 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gaels took on the host Aggies (11-3) but were hurt by costly errors in a 6-0 final score.
Mariani went 2-for-3 in the leadoff spot for Saint Mary's and had half of the team's four hits. The right fielder lifted her season batting average to a team-high .429 with the multi-hit performance. Hannah Chew and Kalissa Heihn had the other two singles for SMC.
Saint Mary's committed four errors in the game that led to two unearned runs. Eileen Perez went 5.1 innings and struck out five in her start.
Katie Kibby threw four innings of relief for the Aggies and allowed just two baserunners in that stretch.
