GOLF | Gaels' Trio Finishes Strong at Bay Area Invite

All three of Saint Mary's individuals placed in the top half of the field at the Bay Area Invitational at TPC Harding.
SAN FRANCISCO — Saint Mary's wrapped up play on Tuesday at TPC Harding by placing their three individuals in the top half of the field at the Bay Area Invitational. Ash Hakim owned the Gaels' top finish by tying for 11th out of 76 competitors.
THE LEADERBOARD
Hakim shot a 2-over in the final round to just barely miss placing in the tournament's top-10. The sophomore shot 1-under on the front 9 and had three birdies overall. Hakim had the second best score on par 3's during the tournament with a 1-under total in the three round event.
Dylan VanderVeer jumped 22 spots in the standings with an even round score to finish play tied for 30th. VanderVeer opened the day with seven straight pars and was an impressive 6-under on par 5's during the invitational.
Evan Peterson was 3-over on Tuesday to remain tied for 15th after the final round. Peterson bounced back from a tough start beginning on 10th and shot 2-under on the front nine to jump back into the top-20. Peterson birdied the 9th hole in all three rounds.
Devin Gregg of Sonoma State shot 5-under in the final round to claim the medalist title. Dixie State's Nicklaus Britt (3-under) and Western Washington's Jordan Lee (2-under) rounded out the top-3. Western Washington claimed the team title with a 6-under team total on Tuesday.
