HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE

  • The Mustangs put runners on the corners with no outs to begin the bottom of the fifth inning. The next batter sent a sacrifice-fly to center field and scored the runner on third to tie the game 1-1. The Gaels were able to end the inning without allowing any more runs to cross the plate. In the bottom of the sixth, the Mustangs hit a leadoff single followed by a double to left center that gave them the 2-1 lead. The next batter hit a double off the left field wall that scored the Mustang's third run of the game.

  • Cal Poly scored another run in the bottom of the seventh inning after a single to center followed by a single up the right side that scored their fourth run of the day. Bryce Willits hit a single to left field to begin the eighth inning before Matt Green hit a sacrifice bunt to the third baseman and advanced Willits to second. Vranesh was then thrown out going to first and gave the Mustangs the second out of the inning. Kevin Milam followed with an infield single and scored Willits to put the Gaels within two runs of the Mustangs.

  • The Mustangs scored the two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and pulled out to a 6-2 lead over Saint Mary's. The Gaels loaded the bases in the top of the ninth inning, but were unable to bring any across the plate, and lost game one 6-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME TWO

  • Eddie Haus hit a leadoff single to centerfield to begin game two of the doubleheader. He advanced on a wild pitch before Daniel Mendez was hit by a pitch and awarded first base. Murphy then crushed a double to deep right field and scored both runners and gave the Gaels the early 2-0 lead. Austin Chauvin next laid down a successful bunt and put runners at the corners with no outs. Conor Thane then hit a single to deep left field and scored Murphy from third to put SMC up 3-0 before the Mustangs took out their starter.

  • With one out in the top of the third, Haus was walked prior to stealing second base during Mendez's at-bat. Murphy then hit his second double of the day and drove in Haus to extend the Gaels' lead to 4-0 with two outs.

Mendez then lined a double up the left field line and scored both runners to put the Gaels up 6-1. Murphy then hit a sacrifice-fly to centerfield and advanced Mendez to third base, followed by a single from Chauvin to left field that scored Mendez.
