WTEN | Gaels Sweep For Second Straight Day Against Broncos

Saint Mary's defeated Santa Clara on the road for their second big WCC win of the week.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — For the second consecutive day, Saint Mary's swept their competition as they took down the Broncos 4-0 on Sunday.

The Gaels claimed the doubles point as the team's No. 2 and No. 3 tandems grabbed two quick wins. Clementine Clement teamed up with Chloe Goyette on Court 2 for a 6-2 win while Jordan Harris and Danielle McIntyre improved to 3-0 this year with a 6-3 win on Court 3.

Mariia Kozyreva set the tone early for the Gaels with a comfortable 6-1, 6-1 win over the Broncos' top player Maddie Pothoff. Hind Abdelouahid also breezed to a 6-1, 6-2 win on Court 4 before Clement delivered the win with another straight set victory against SCU's Jamie Schroer.

Liesl Pieters led in her match on Court 6 before the dual was called. Goyette was headed to a third set against her opponent and Harris was making a strong comeback on Court 5 after dropping her first set.
