STANFORD, Calif. — The No. 47 Gaels closed out The Goodwin on Saturday with their second-best round of the three-day tournament among a talent-loaded 27 team field.
THE LEADERBOARD
Host No. 31 Stanford claimed the team title as the only team to shoot under par for the tournament. The Cardinal combined for an 8-under par score and were 18 strokes ahead of second place No. 6 USC. Rounding out the top-5 of the 27 team field were No. 5 Oklahoma (14-over), No. 11 Cal (15-over), and Washington (17-over).
The Gaels tied for 21st alongside Toledo with a 41-over total for the three-day tourney. Saint Mary's shot 12-over par on the final day under tough playing conditions.
Leading the charge for SMC was
Blake Hathcoat who was 1-over on the day and had the team's best finish at t-29th out of 135 competitors.
Michael Slesinski and
Ethan Ashbrook were each 3-over in the final round while
Ethan Farnam was close behind at 5-over.
Ryan Grauman, who had the team's second best finish at 11-over during the tournament, shot 7-over.
Stanford's Brandon Wu earned medalist honors at 4-under and was three strokes below par on Saturday. Rounding out the top-5 were Stanford's David Snyder, Cal's Collin Morikawa, BYU's Peter Kuest, and USC's Kaito Onishi.
FINAL ROUND HIGHLIGHTS
- Hathcoat was 2-under on the front nine with two of his three birdies coming in that stretch.
- Grauman had eight straight pars from holes 10 to 17.
- Hathcoat tied for 17th in the field during the tournament on par 5's at 4-under.
- Hathcoat was also fifth in pars over all three rounds with 38.
