Gaels' head coach Simon Harston bolstered his 2019-20 roster with the signing of incoming freshman, Gabriela Tevez.
MORAGA, Calif. — Women's tennis head coach Simon Harston announced the signing today of Gabriela Tevez who will be joining the Gaels in the fall as a freshman.
"We're delighted that Gaby will be joining us next year," said Harston of his new recruit. "She has all the attributes that we look for in a recruit: a great player, great student and great person. We know that she will bring an excellent work ethic and a desire for constant improvement. She is going to be a really good fit for our program."
Tevez is a Bay Area native and will be graduating this spring from Oak Grove High School in San Jose. She plans on studying Business Administration during her time at Saint Mary's.
Tevez brings an impressive juniors resume to Moraga as a five-star recruit who ranked among the top-75 recruits in the nation earlier this year. She is among the top-10 18 year olds in Northern California according to the USTA and has won or been a finalist in several Open tournaments.
"I chose Saint Mary's because it has great academics and is one of the top women's tennis programs in Northern California," explained Tevez. "The campus is close to home so I'm happy to stay close to my family and friends. Also, Coach Harston has some pro-tour experience to which he can relate and help guide me towards my goal of playing pro tennis after college."
The Gaels closed out their 2019 season with a 10-11 record and 6-3 showing during conference play. The team will return nearly the whole team next year after losing just one senior, Clementine Clement.
