Anders Engebretsen has been named the West Coast Conference's Player of the Week for the second time this season.
SAN BRUNO, Calif. — For the second time in the first three weeks of the season, Gaels' senior forward Anders Engebretsen has been named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week. No. 7 Saint Mary's went 2-0 last week and scored a total of eight goals against San Jose State and CSU Bakersfield.
Engebretsen earned his first career hat trick during Monday's 5-2 win over the Spartans and added an assist for a seven-point performance. After collecting a helper on the Gaels' first goal of the game, Engebretsen scored the equalizer to bring SMC back from a 2-0 deficit. The senior then added two more goals in the final three minutes of the match, only 30 seconds apart, to complete the hat trick.
In Friday's match against the Runners, Engebretsen saved the day with a superb game-winning goal in overtime to push the team's unbeaten streak to 29. Just under five minutes into the extra session, the Norweigan ran down the endline, took a shot that deflected off the post, and then headed in the rebound into the far side netting for his seventh goal of the season.
Engebretsen is now tied for first in the country in points per game at 3.20. He leads the Gaels in nearly all offensive categories.
