Saint Mary's collected their fourth win of the season after Vanessa Gaitan scored the lone goal of the game against Portland State.
MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's completed their fourth victory of the season on Friday after defeating Portland State in a 1-0 decision.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gaels sealed the win on Friday with a goal in the 29th minute by Vanessa Gaitan. Gaitan notched her first goal of the season off a solid pass from Sophie Santos for a clear shot into the left corner of the net.
The Gaels had a strong offensive performance throughout the match as they managed to put up 18 shots with half of those coming on frame. Gaitan led SMC's efforts as she tallied five shots, a season-high for the junior this year.
Kamryn Farro was close to scoring the second goal for the Gaels in the 70th minute when she launched the ball into the back of the net, but was denied the goal due to an offsides call. The Gaels had several other scoring opportunities in the game but seven offsides negated them.
In goal, Maleah Milner recorded five total saves, three of which came in the second half of action. The clean sheet against the Vikings was Milner's second shutout of the year.
