MORAGA, Calif. — The West Coast Conference officially announced spring conference schedules for women's soccer this morning in addition to men's soccer and women's volleyball. The spring schedule will replace the 2020 fall schedule which was canceled due to COVID-19.
The WCC women's soccer schedule begins on Saturday, Feb. 20 and continues each Saturday for the next eight weeks. Each school will play the traditional nine-game conference schedule with no postseason conference tournament.
The Gaels open play on Feb. 20 at Pacific before returning home to face WCC-powerhouse Pepperdine in their home opener on the 27th. SMC then visits another top-ranked program in Santa Clara before hosting San Diego on Mar. 13.
Saint Mary's leaves Northern California for the first time late in March to face Gonzaga in Spokane on the 20th. The next three games consist of at San Francisco, at home versus BYU, and back on the road at Portland.
The last game of the regular season comes on April 17 in Moraga against Loyola Marymount. The Selection Show for the NCAA Tournament is the following day.
The season has been long anticipated by Saint Mary's head coach Theresa Romagnolo and her staff. Romagnolo was hired to take over the program back in early 2020 and is yet to take the pitch in an official game with the Gaels. Prior to SMC, the Washington alumna served as head coach at Notre Dame where she led the Fighting Irish to a 52-21-13 record across four seasons.
"We are looking forward to getting back on the field and competing in the WCC," said Romagnolo. "We've made great strides this fall and are excited to carry this momentum into the spring season."
The addition of any non-conference contests will be announced at a later date.
