LAST TIME OUT
Saint Mary's had two different performances last week against two of the better teams in the WCC. First, the Gaels nearly pulled off a stunning upset against the LMU Lions on Thursday, October 7 after taking the first two sets against a Lions team that had only lost two matches all season. LMU came roaring back in the final three sets emerge victorious, but not after the Gaels saw big performances from Selbie Christensen (13 kills, career-best), Hawley Harrer (13 kills), and Ashley Reed (12 kills, career-best)

On Saturday, Saint Mary's lost in three sets to a Pepperdine squad ranked inside the top-25 in the NCAA. The Gaels put up a strong fight in the first set, but didn't have enough fire power to douse the Waves. No Gael had more than six kills in that match, quite the contrast from Thursday's showing. However, the Gaels have played much better unranked teams this year, sporting a record of 8-5 in those matches.

ABOUT PACIFIC
It has been quite the up-and-down season for the Pacific Tigers. They opened their season by getting swept in the SMU Tournament, and began the year losing six of their first eight matches. A four-match winning streak in conference play pushed the Tigers to 4-2 in the WCC, including a win over #23 Pepperdine on Thursday in five sets. This was followed by another five-set match, this time against LMU, in which the Lions were able to escape like they did in Moraga. The Tigers are the leaders in the WCC in digs per set, with Jadyn Tubbs leading the way at 4.29 digs per set, while Alexa Edwards has 100 more kills than anyone on the team.
