MORAGA, Calif. — The Saint Mary's Men's Soccer Team will take on the Santa Clara University Broncos in a showdown for first place in the West Coast Conference this Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at Saint Mary's Stadium. Both teams have identical conference records and are tied atop the WCC standings with just four matches left in the regular season for the Gaels. The regular season champion in the West Coast Conference will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

They return 20 players including four All-West Coast Conference honorees from a team that finished 4-4 during a pandemic shortened season in the spring. The Broncos are led by two-time All-WCC first team selection
Javier Ruiz Duran. The forward from Barcelona, Spain led the team in assists with three and scored a pair of goals to tie for second on the squad. His seven points were second most on the team behind
Oladayo Thomas' nine points.

Thomas played in his first year with the Broncos after transferring from Gettysburg College, and finished the spring season on a tear scoring four goals in the final three games. He also added an assist to finish with a team-high nine points to garner All-WCC honorable mention along with senior
Alejandro Barajas and freshman
Caden Buckley. Buckley was also named to the All-Freshman team.Â

The Gaels are 11-37-6 all time against the Broncos going back to 1978. However the Gaels swept last year's season series and have won six of their last eight meetings with Santa Clara.
