MORAGA, Calif. — The Saint Mary's Women's Soccer Team will host the Gonzaga Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon at Saint Mary's Stadium. The Gaels will look to continue their unbeaten streak over the last four games as they received three votes for the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll this week. It's the first time the program has received votes in the top 25 since September of 2004.

LAST TIME OUT
For the second-straight game the Gaels posted a shutout as
Taylor Poland made four saves in the scoreless tie against No. 13 Pepperdine, and all of them came at critical junctures in the second half and overtime for her seventh shutout of the season. The Gaels defense kept the explosive Waves from generating any quality chances -- especially in the first 45 minutes -- by tightly protecting their goal.

Last spring Gonzaga finished third for the first time since the West Coast Conference expanded to 10 teams. GU finished 7-3-1 overall and 5-2-1 in conference play. The Zags' coaching staff was named the West Region Staff of the Year. Head Coach Chris Watkins was named a 2020-21 West Coast Conference co-Coach of the Year, becoming only the second GU Head Coach to earn WCC Coach of the Year honors, and the first since 2003. The Bulldogs finished the season receiving a vote in the national rankings.

The Bulldogs were selected fourth in the conference's preseason poll as voted by the league's head coaches, two spots ahead of the Gaels. GU's
Jordan Thompson was named Preseason All-West Coast Conference.

Lyza Bosselmann was named honorable mention All-Conference last season after she made 41 saves in 11 appearances with a 0.91 goals against average.

Sophia Braun was a first team All-WCC selection in the spring. She was also named to the United Soccer Coaches All-West Region Second Team. The junior from Beaverton, Ore. scored a goal against the Gaels last season.
Kayla Chatman-Haggerty and
Kate Doyle were named to the WCC All-Freshman Team in the spring.

Saint Mary's is 14-12-2 all time against Gonzaga, though the Bulldogs have one the last three meetings without allowing a goal.
