SAN MATEO, Calif. - SMC Men's Soccer had six players honored in the West Coast Conference's end-of-the-season awards for the second season in a row.
Â
Senior
Sebastian Schacht was named All-WCC First Team, sophomore
Louis Sterobo and freshman
Riley Lynch were selected to the All-WCC Second Team, and junior
Boyd Curry received All-WCC Honorable Mention.
Â
Riley was joined by fellow newcomers
Jan Marpe and
Gael Quintero on the All-WCC Freshman Team as well. The Gaels led the conference in players named to the All-WCC Freshman team, which bodes well for the future of the Gaels after having one of the younger teams in the Coach
Adam Cooper era in 2021. It's the first time in Saint Mary's Men's Soccer program history that the Gaels have had three players named to the All-WCC Freshman Team.
Â
It's the third time in Schacht's career he has been named All-WCC First Team after being selected the previous two seasons as well. He was also an All-WCC Freshman Team winner in his first year as a Gael. Curry is also a repeat honoree after being named All-WCC Second Team last season.
Â
Schacht started in all 64 games he's played as a Gael and is sixth all time in minutes played in program history. He's accumulated 30 career points on 10 goals and 10 assists and is a perfect 6 for 6 on penalty kick shots, including the overtime game-winner in the 2021 season finale for his third goal of the season.
Â
Lynch showed his speed and play-making ability with three goals and three assists in his freshman season while leading the team in shots on goal. Sterobo was solid all year long starting in all 15 games he played this year after starting every game last season. Â
Â
Curry started 15 games in 16 played this season and was second on the team in minutes played while scoring a goal with an assist on defense for the Gaels. Quintero played in 17 games, starting in seven, and had two assists in his freshman campaign. Marpe made 11 starts in 10 games played and scored a goal against CSUN.
