KANSAS CITY, Mo. — With the 2021 NCAA Men's Soccer College Cup coming to a close, the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Teams have been announced by the governing body. Saint Mary's sees two of its most important contributors land on the All-West Region Team, with
Sebastian Schacht and
Boyd Curry taking home second and third team honors, respectively. This marks the third time Schacht takes home an honor from the United Soccer Coaches, and the second for Curry. Both Gaels were on All-Region Teams in the spring.
Â
Schacht started in all 64 games he's played as a Gael and is sixth all-time in minutes played in program history. He's accumulated 30 career points on 10 goals and 10 assists and finishes a perfect 6-6 on penalty kick shots, including the overtime game-winner in the 2021 season finale for his third goal of the season. Schacht was named to the All-WCC First Team for the third time in his career, and to the All-West Region team for the third year in a row as well.
Â
Curry started 15 games in 16 played this season and was second on the team in minutes played while scoring a goal with an assist on defense for the Gaels. While Curry has never been a prolific scorer since he plays defense, his impact on a game is immeasurable. He has helped anchor some of the best back lines in SMC history over the last three years, and has been part of this run that is the most successful stretch of soccer in Saint Mary's history. Curry lands on the All-West Region Third Team this season after finishing on the Second Team last season.
Â
A grand total of 15 players from the West Coast Conference make up the First, Second, and Third teams. Loyola Marymount, Santa Clara, Pacific, and Portland each have three players represented, while Saint Mary's has two, and San Francisco has one.
