STANFORD, Calif. — Saint Mary's (2-8) couldn't upend a tough Stanford (2-0) team on Wednesday as they fell 6-1 to the Cardinal. Senior Matis Bot had a win in singles against a ranked opponent for SMC, his first ranked-win of the year.
All three doubles matches were close battles but Stanford managed to best the Gaels on all three courts. SMC fell 5-7, 6-7 (4), and 4-6 in the matches.
Bot picked up the team's only singles win as he impressively took down No. 75 Sangeet Sridhar in three sets. The senior easily took the first set 6-2 before dropping a tight middle set, 4-6. In the tiebreaker third set, the two players went back and forth with Bot eventually coming out on top 10-9.
No. 23 Damon Kesaris had the difficult task of facing off with No. 3 Alexandre Rotasaert and went three sets with the Cardinal's top player but fell 1-6, 6-2, 2-6.
Saint Mary's road trip continues as they will now head to Nevada for a match on Sunday with the Wolfpack. First serve is at noon.
