DAVIS, Calif. – For the first time since March 11th, 2022, the Saint Mary's men's tennis team took down UC Davis for their second win of the spring season. After clinching the doubles point with wins from Finn Dyer/Thibaud Maxant and Francisco Duran/Bastien Maxant, the Gaels took three individual duals including the match clincher from Juan Pedro Etchecoin who defeated UC Davis' Kurt Miller in a dramatic three-set match. After dropping the opening set in a tiebreaker, Etchecoin battled back to win the next two 6-1 7-5 to seal the 4-3 match victory for Saint Mary's.

Older brother Paulo Hugo Etchecoin and senior Pierre Lietuaud captured the other two singles points for the Gaels as they are now 2-1 under first-year head coach Dan Cardiff. Cardiff and his squad will head south next weekend for a pair of matches against Cal Poly and New Mexico in San Luis Obispo.

I am extremely proud of our entire crew today, on and off the court, said Cardiff. Everyone played a role in this victory, and it started the minute we left campus this morning. We played to our strengths, committed to our process and backed each other from start to finish. Special shoutout to true freshman JP in his third ever dual match for coming back from a break down in a difficult environment to clinch. It was an amazing way to set the tone for the season (Cardiff).
