STANFORD, Calif. - Saint Mary's kicked off their 2026 spring campaign with a tough road test against 4th ranked Stanford Tuesday afternoon. The Gaels fell 4-0 in the contest but walked away with some solid performances from the likes of Francisco Duran, Juan Pedro Etchecoin and Joey Lyons in the singles play. Duran found himself knotted at four in the second set against the top American recruit in the country in Jagger Leach while Etchecoin had a 5-1 advantage in his second set over Stanford's Mark Krupkin.
Junior transfer Joey Lyon made his SMC debut and after dropping his opening set, he bounced back and ended the match while serving for set point over Luke Tusher. The Etchecoin brothers put together the toughest doubles test for the fourth ranked Cardinal as they dropped a dramatic tiebreaker to fall 7-6. Thibaud Maxant, Finn Dyer and Paulo Hugo Etchecoin were the three other singles participants for the Gaels while Bastien Maxant paired up with Duran in doubles play.
