MSOC | Shots Galore for Gaels in Scoreless Draw With Zags
10/29/2022 6:06:00 PM | Men's Soccer
MORAGA, Calif. – Saint Mary's Men's Soccer continued their pattern of getting more shots on net than they did early in the season, but still finished with a scoreless draw against Gonzaga on Saturday afternoon at Saint Mary's Stadium.
The Gaels peppered the Zags with 14 shots on the day, after putting 15 shots on the Pacific Tigers and 13 shots against USF in their previous two games. Gonzaga had 7 shots and Kash Oladapo had to make a spectacular save in each half at close range to preserve the shut out.
But SMC had the best scoring opportunities of the day, including a shot by freshman Luke Lawrence from just outside the penalty area that clanged off the corner of the goal with the crossbar meets the post in the 23rd minute.
The Gaels came out firing in the second half with a flurry of shots in the first 15 minutes of the half, with six shots alone in that span creating more golden opportunities that they barely missed.
Riley Lynch had a pair of shots miss wide by inches in the 49th and 54th minute, and in between Bastian Toelhoej had a wide-open net but shot wide left in the 50th minute.
The tie put the Gaels at 6-6-4 overall on the year and 1-1-3 in conference play and in fourth place in the WCC standings with two games left to play.
UP NEXT: SMC will host senior day vs. LMU on November 5 at 1:00 p.m.
