SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Saint Mary's Men's Soccer had seven players named to the 2022 All-WCC Teams, including first teamer
Louis Sterobo.

The format for the 2022 All-WCC Soccer teams included position-specific designations forwards, defenders, and midfielders for the first time.

Sterobo was named First Team All-WCC Defender,
Boyd Curry was named Second Team All-WCC Defender, and
Wade Muttitt earned Second Team All-WCC Midfielder.

The Gaels also had
Bastian Toelhoej and
Luke Lawrence make the All-WCC Freshman Team, while
Christian Engmann and
Riley Lynch each received All-WCC Honorable Mention.

The junior captain, Sterobo, played 17 games for the Gaels this season with 16 starts. He scored his first career goal at UC Irvine this season, but his calling card has been as a defensive stalwart for SMC.

The Odense, Denmark native was third on the team in minutes this season, and has racked up over 3,500 minutes in his career, while being part of 13 shutouts over the past two seasons. It's second set of All-WCC honors after making the second team last season.

Curry played in 13 matches with 12 starts this season while playing through hip injury early in the season. A fixture on the back line for SMC as well, he has played over 4,000 minutes as Gael, getting him into the top 10 in program history. It's the third time he's received all WCC honors, garnering honorable mention last year and making the second team as a sophomore.

Muttitt burst onto the scene with the Gaels this year after transferring from Feather River College. He led the team in goals (5) and points (10) on the season, and had a two-goal game against Pacific in a 3-1 win. The transfer was known for his quick strikes, scoring his first goal in Stockton in 24 seconds and his goal against LMU in the third minute.
Toelhoej came to the Gaels from Copenhagen, Denmark and was fifth on the team in goals (2) and points (6). He started all 17 games for Saint Mary's and played the full 90 minutes in 13 matches, finishing second on the team in minutes with 1,460.

Lawrence became a bigger piece of the SMC defense as the season went on, playing in the Gaels final nine games of the season, starting eight of them. He played the full 90 minutes in the Gaels last four games, showing his quickness and physicality.

Engmann and Lynch both played in all 18 games for Saint Mary's this season, with Engmann starting all 18 and Lynch starting in 17. Engmann led the Gaels in minutes played with 1,572 and again was the team's throw-in specialist near the opponents' goal.

The Shoreline, Wash. native scored a goal against Sacramento stat and notched two assists this season. It's the second time he's received All-WCC honors, after making the first team as a freshman.

It's the second time receiving All-WCC honors for Lynch as well, as he was All-WCC Second Team last year and made the All-Freshman squad. The Chandler, Ariz. native was first on the team in assists (5) and shots (39), and second in points (9).
