MSOC | Oladapo Named Defensive Player of Week
11/7/2022 2:08:00 PM | Men's Soccer
SAN MATEO, Calif. – Men's Soccer goalkeeper Kash Oladapo was named the WCC Defensive Player of the Week for November 7, after posting his fourth shutout of the season and seventh as a Gael.
Oladapo was spotted a 1-0 lead in the third minute of the match and wasn't tested much in the first half by LMU, but the second half was a very different story as the junior keeper made two saves at point blank range that stunned the Lions and thrilled the SMC supporters to preserve the shut out.
The first came on a shot from eight yards away directly in the middle of the box after a cross from Oladapo's left. He moved to his right but got his left arm up to deflect the shot out of play as the Lions attacker shot it against the grain in the 73rd minute.
His second big save came in the in the 87th minute from the same distance, but off to his left. The Lions attacker settled a pass down off his chest and fired a right-footed shot all in one motion, but Oladapo dove to his right to punch it away.
Without those two saves on shots from just outside the six-yard box, the game may have been tied or the Gaels could have lost 2-1.
Men's Soccer concluded the regular season this Saturday, November 12 at 7:00 p.m. at Santa Clara.
