ROW | Spring Season Begins at Sacramento State Invite
3/11/2022 10:00:00 AM | Women's Rowing
FOLSOM, Calif. — After a few practice competitions early in the spring semester, Saint Mary's Rowing is ready to get back to work with their first official race of the spring. The Gaels will head to Folsom to take part in the Sacramento State Invite, the first of two weekends where the Gaels will race in a Sacramento State-hosted event. This begins a six-race spring semester for SMC, which will conclude with the WCC Championship on May 14.
THE DETAILS
Sacramento State Invite
Saturday, March 12 at 8:30 am
Lake Natoma – Folsom, Calif.
LAST TIME OUT
The Gaels closed out the fall semester at the Head of the Lagoon, the first time the event had taken place since Fall of 2019. With two boats in the water, the Gaels recorded a sixth-place finish out of 10, including a pair of significant victories. Saint Mary's finished the 5k race 20 seconds faster than one of the University of Washington boats, and another 22 seconds faster than Humboldt State. That was an important win for Saint Mary's after the Gaels were defeated by Humboldt State in an exhibition earlier this year.
PREVIOUSLY AT SAC STATE
Last season, in a COVID-19 altered spring schedule, the Gaels went head-to-head with Sacramento State in a dual-style set of races. They were able to shave off time from two of their three races from the previous weekend against Portland. In the varsity fours, the Gaels were over 35 seconds faster than they were in defeat against Portland. Their first varsity eight time was faster as well despite dropping the race to Sacramento State, improving by roughly four seconds.
