SAN JOSE, Calif. — Beginning back-to-back days at San Jose State, Saint Mary's Beach Volleyball played a doubleheader against Sacramento State and the hosts of the weekend. The Gaels came in with a long winning streak that ran up to seven games, but saw that streak snapped in the second match of the day. SMC took down Sacramento State but lost to San Jose State, sending their record to 7-5 overall on the year.
 
Match 1: Saint Mary's 4, Sacramento State 1
In a shortened first match against Sacramento State, the Gaels came out with a 3-1 victory after what appeared to be a bit of a slow start. Saint Mary's dropped their opening matchup in the fours to Sacramento State (three games), but they bounced back to take the remaining three matchups and lock-up a victory. A big factor in winning came as Jasmin Suarez and Jennifer "Boo" Laird won a three-game match against the top pair for Sacramento State, with a 15-7 final in the deciding game. Chandler Cowell and Selbie Christensen secured the win for SMC with 21-15 and 21-14 wins in the twos.

Match 2: San Jose State 3, Saint Mary's 2
San Jose State got back at the Gaels for a win in Moraga by taking down the Gaels 3-2 on their home sand. The Spartans won the first two flights (fours and fives) before Saint Mary's got back in the match after Makenna Joyce/Karmin Brown and Chandler Cowell/Selbie Christensen made good work of their matches, winning to split things up at 2-2. It came down to the top pairs to determine a winner, and after falling short in the first game, Suarez and Laird did their best to keep it close in the second game, but lost in extra points 23-21 to give the win to SJSU.

Day two of competition at San Jose State gets underway at 9:00 am as Saint Mary's plays two against two different teams from Friday. The Gaels open against San Francisco in a WCC clash on the sand in the morning, and then play Oregon at 12:00 pm.
